Further than I thought: Thursday Jan 12, 2012

So this morning I received a bundle of Newspapers from Orillia Today - commence day one. All of the flyers were pre-stuffed, as it was my first week on the job.

This morning before leaving, I typed the first address into Google Maps. It showed up less than a block away from my house - cool! When I got there, the house numbers were all wrong. It turns out my route starts at the top of the hill about a 10-15 minute walk away from my house - so with that 30 billion pound sack of paper I guess I'm getting the exercise I asked for. On top of that, it was snowing like a boss.

I pondered a lot as I walked. Mostly about The Hobbit (which I'm just finishing up for the first time in a long time), but also about a business idea.

How awesome would it be to start a milkman service. Where for a fee, you would receive that good old glass bottle of milk on your doorstep, delivered by a man in blue coveralls with slicked back hair and a mighty good mustache (of course this would be a part of the hiring process). The nostalgia alone is worth a fortune, and you hear it said all the time 'I miss getting milk on my doorstep every morning'.

Maybe I'll keep that in my back pocket for future use..

Here's a photo I took on my iPhone on the way home

The hilarity of it all.

Hi everyone, welcome to my new blog!

This will be my first week of deliveries for the Orillia Today Newspaper. I haven't received my bundle of papers yet, but I'm excited to get things started!

I've told a few people about me signing up to become a paper boy, and the immediate reaction I get is laughter. They say something like, "You're stealing a job from a little boy." I respond with, "No, the little boy quit." I guess that dreams of big money got the best of him.
It's hard to communicate why I'm doing this.. At the baseline, my hope is to gain a collection of stories, photographs, and video of this time in my life, and of the 'City' of Orillia - and get some exercise while I'm at it.

Please sign up by entering your email address, and you will receive a notification when a new blog post has been made. Stoked to see how this goes!
